Git Log Warning

Here is a common warning message from the "git log" command.

$ git log
# WARNING: terminal is not fully functional
- (press RETURN)

While this warning does not affect the output of the Git command, it is quite annoying to have to press enter an additional time just to see the output. To resolve this issue, you just have to correctly set the “TERM” variable in your "~/.bashrc" file. You may need to manually create your "~/.bashrc" file in a text editor if it does not already exist.

If you are running Git on Windows, then I recommend that you add or modify this line to your "~/.bashrc" file.

export TERM=cygwin

However, if you are running Git on UNIX or Linux, then I recommend that you add or modify this line to your "~/.bashrc" file.

export TERM=xterm

If either term value does not work, try the other one or some other term that is installed on your computer. Additionally, the changes will only take into affect on new Git command prompts, so start a new Git BASH Shell to test it.
