Reason versus Religion

Consider this famous proverb for a moment.

Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it,
unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.

-Buddha (a.k.a. Prince Gautama and Siddhartha Gautama)

In my opinion, this statement is a direct assault on all organized religions. This is because all faiths indoctrinate their beliefs without allowing critical thinking of their beliefs among their followers. If religions allowed critical thinking and reason from their followers, then these followers would quickly realize their faiths have immoral and illogical stances. Thus, their thinking followers would not be followers for long, and no organized religion would last long with a dwindling number of followers.

As a result, I believe that critical thinking and reason would cause religious followers to no longer follow, since religions are contradictory to reason, logic, and modern morality.
