Revenge Prolongs Pain

You may be familiar with this ancient Latin proverb of:

"Revenge is a confession of pain."

I believe this adage is true for several reasons; however I believe it misses a very important point.

Since revenge is driven by the passion of anger, revenge only fuels the anger by thinking more about the reason for the anger, thus psychologically reinforcing those reasons. As a result, revenge or even thinking about revenge prevents people from getting over and forgetting about the reason for their anger.

Therefore, I have this new saying:

"Revenge prolongs pain."

Thus, to quickly overcome pain, it is best to surmount the desire for revenge. In other words, taking the moral high road will result with less pain and more happiness.
