Data Backup Tracking

If you are like me, then you also have several electronic devices that you use to take pictures and videos with. As a result, it quickly becomes unwieldy to remember when was the last time that I copied or backed up the media files off of those devices.

For instance, on my smartphone, I last backed up my pictures and videos on December 1st; however on my wife’s smartphone, I may have last backed up her files on November 2nd. Also add both tablet computers and the even miscellaneous data on the laptop, you can see how difficult it is to keep track of when the last time that I backed up data on each device.

As a result, I now have a very simple system. In the root directory of each device, I created a directory with the name of the date that I last backed up the data on that device. So if I connect a device and I see the last backup date was November 15th, then I just need to copy the data after that date and then rename the directory to today’s date for the next backup.
