YOLO and Wisdom
I am recently concerned with a new philosophy that the new generation of youth have embraced, called You Only Live Once (YOLO). Basically, young people are more accepting of making unwise decisions for the purpose of new experiences, including permanent life altering choices such as teen pregnancies, drugs, tattoos, taking bodily risks, etc.
This new philosophy indirectly reminded me of a Romanian proverb that goes something like this:
It is obvious to me that these two philosophies have opposing viewpoints. Primarily, YOLO embraces making bad decisions without forethought thus learning the hard way. While the Romanian proverb embraces learning at the expense of others to avoid making bad decisions.
It seems to me that this new generation may need to learn more wisdom.
